Lunds & Byerlys is a private retail grocery supermarket chain with 27 stores throughout the Twin Cities, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, and surrounding area. Basically, Lunds and Byerlys were two competitor companies. Lunds was founded by Russell Lund in 1939 as Hove’s and changed its name to Lunds in 1964 whereas Byerlys was founded by Don Byerly in 1968. Lunds acquires Byerlys in 1997 and brought them under one company umbrella named Lund Food Holdings, Inc. but they continued to operate under their individual brand names. Finally, in 2015 all Lunds and Byerlys locations become Lunds & Byerlys.
